Theodora was a Monophysite, which is a form of Christianity. She chose to be a Monophysite because the ministers preached right to women. (Judson Knight: p. 205) They believed that Jesus was only God and not a person like orthodox Christians beliefs. Theodora convinced Justinian to pass new laws that established greater tolerance for Monophysite believers; they were persecuted by orthodox Christians. She also made laws that prohibited forced prostitution and established homes for prostitutes that helped them turn thier life around. She is shown in mosaics in the church of San Vitale, in Ravenna. (Sydney J. Jones: p.211-212)
